Last week I held another of my popular monthly demonstration evenings at my Hythe gallery.
The medium for the evening was soft pastels and the subject was this beautiful, tranquil sunset over the sea at Dymchurch Bay, which has some really lovely warm and cool values.

I do enjoy working in pastels. In a way pastels are akin to oils in that you can layer and work colour and, after oils, they are my favourite medium.
For this demo I used Unison handmade soft pastels, which are are almost pure pigment. They are just perfect for blending to achieve a wonderfully soft but vibrant finish.
There was not a space to be had at the gallery with a full house made up of regulars and new faces, all of whom enjoyed themselves enormously. I was certainly kept on my toes, with questions back and forth and plenty of audience participation… the evening was a roaring success!
The final demonstration evening for 2017 is on Thursday 14th December and it’ll be a snow scene in oils, perfect for the Christmas season.
