Last night I held another of my regular monthly demonstration evenings at the gallery. It was a great evening enjoyed by all!
The topic of this event was ink and wash, a medium which can be tricky to get right but can produce stunning results.
I completed two ink & wash drawings over the course of the evening and I was really pleased with the results.
Cornish Harbour (ink and wash) by Paul Apps
In the first one I completed, a drawing of a Cornish harbour scene, I love the contrast between the cool movement of the water against the solidity of the rocks. A tranquil scene!
The second drawing, of tenders in a harbour, was a more spontaneous and looser. I used a matchstick to create the thick ink lines and, overall, it’s a much bolder image.
The participants said the overall effect was reminiscent of the illustrations from the original Winnie The Pooh books by the artist E. H. Shepherd!

This ink and wash drawings will soon be available to buy via my website.
The next demo evening is on the 10th August and the topic will be Folkestone Harbour in oils. Book early to avoid disappointment as spaces are filling up fast!
