Demo Evening – Swan in pastel pencil

Last night I held another of my popular monthly demonstration sessions.  It was well attended and a really fun-filled evening.  The subject this time around was this beautiful swan created using pastel pencils.

Pastel pencils are a good medium through which to explore pastel work as they give you more control than conventional pastel sticks.  However, it had been a while since I had used pastel pencils so I had to give myself a little time to practice beforehand!

I used Derwent pastel pencils and my 30-year-old Swann Stabilo pencils, a testament to how good a product they are!  The paper was pastel matt card from Clairefontaine.

Those attending the demo really enjoyed it, lots of questions were asked and the group loved the final finished work.  Hopefully, I may have inspired some people to give pastel pencils a try.

The next demonstration evening is on Thursday 8th June where the subject will be atmospheric Dungeness using charcoal.  It should be a fun (and messy!) evening so book now as spaces are limited.
