Wet Panel Carriers – Exclusive to Paul Apps Fine Art

As an experienced En Plein Air painter of long standing I have always searched for a way of carrying my freshly painted panels safely and have seen and tried many boxes of different designs and sizes over the years.

Whilst many of them are very good I’ve never felt that one entirely fitted my needs.I have always wanted a good, solid, inexpensive carrying box which I can carry either inside my rucksack or strapped onto the outside which has just the right amount of storage to safely transport a day’s worth of paintings.

So, bearing my requirements in mind, I designed the perfect carrier for my En Plein Air requirements!

These carriers, exclusive to Paul Apps Fine Art, are hand-built of good quality timber and, for strength, the top carrier is English oak.  The carrier is waxed and finished to be water resistant 8UH7 so are ideal for any weather conditions.  Currently, the carriers in stock are 8″ x 10″ (ideal for 8″ x 6″ and 8″ x 10″ panels) but 9″ x 12″ carriers are due in shortly (not shown in image) and these will safely transport panels up to 9″ x 12″.

More than just an Easter egg…

Eaton Lands trailer

Buy Dogs and Puppies Book

Buy Lakes, Rivers and Streams Book

Buy Eaton Lands DVD

It’s almost Easter weekend (14th-17th April) so, instead of another chocolate egg, why not buy something different?  For the creative person in your life, there’s my books on painting in acrylics.  Dogs and Puppies and Lakes, Rivers and Streams are step-by-step guides on how to paint these subjects and they also contain reusable tracings  to enable you to easily outline the drawing so that you can quickly get on with painting.

Or there’s my art tutorial dvds which are packed full of handy hints and tips.  If you’ve never painted outside my dvd Eaton Lands: An En Plein Air demonstration will wet your appetite! I’m a passionate advocate of painting En Plein Air with many years experience and the dvd shows you how to get the best out of using the great outdoors as your artist’s studio.   For animal lovers, there’s dvds on how to paint a Springer Spaniel and Labrador.  These dvds take you step-by-step through the process of painting these lovely dogs, from first sketch to completed painting.

Alongside these artist’s guides, I stock a range of Michael Harding oil paints, Rosemary & Co brushes, canvas boards, Hahnamule watercolour paper and other artists’ materials.  In fact, everything you need to get painting.

There’s also gifts for the home featuring specially selected images from some of my paintings.  These include bone china mugs with a wide range of designs and 16″ cushions featuring big cats, one of my favourite subjects to paint.  If you love cats, you’ll love these cushions!

If you’re still stuck for an idea, how about a gift certificate? Just load it up with any amount you like and it can be put towards a painting or print from the gallery.  This makes an ideal gift for any occasion. Just email me and I will sort it out for you.

New book: African Wildlife in Watercolour

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve been commissioned by Search Press to write my third art book!  The book, called African Wildlife in Watercolour, will be available to buy early in 2019.

This book will be a radical departure from my last two books, Dogs and Puppies in Acrylics (2012) and Lakes, Rivers and Streams in Acrylics (2015), both in terms of medium and subject matter but I’m really looking forward to working on it as I get to go to Africa, one of my favourite places in the world, and paint the wildlife in it’s natural environment.

Watercolour can be a challenging medium and the aim of this book is to explore different painting approaches through fully illustrated step-by-step guides, with tips and hints to enable you to get really get the best out of your watercolour painting.  I’ll keep you all updated on my African painting experience and the book’s progress!

Well the season to be merry is almost upon us…

The gallery goes from strength to strength and I am so happy that I took the gamble to move onto the street in Marine Walk Street, Hythe.

I have completed two promised commissions in time for Christmas as promised  several new paintings have been sold and made ready to move to there new owners homes.

I finished framing the Thames Barge watercolour today and really happy about how it looks,

The Corn Rolls from Donkey Street below also has a new home to go to. another image also left the gallery this morning. Cards and prints are also leaving the premises as gifts.

Did I mention gift cards as well for workshops and lessons, prints and a host of other things.

The gallery at 5pm looking good turned the Christmas lights off, but all has a good look. Inviting I hope for classes in 2016, Workshops, cards, prints, and originals. Gift cards and so much more come see what is on offer.

Latest Book

I am on the final stretch to the completion of my new book, ‘Painting Rivers Lakes and Streams’. Many thousands of words and 24 new paintings …. DONE!

Just tying up all loose ends prior to my publishers deadline at the end of this month……

Sadly I have not painted properly for a few weeks except demonstration pieces for students and art groups, just full on with writing.

So I hope that I shall be back to painting Wildlife and Plein Air studies very soon, that is in between packing for a house move in the new year…

Hah when does it ever slow down….. Need to paint more……

Painting hard and thinking ahead.

I have been so busy this past year not only teaching my students at my studio in Hythe, as well as all my many workshops, I have been concentrating upon my new book.  The new title from Search Press  is to be called “Painting Rivers Lakes and Streams”. It has been a long road, and then end is not yet in sight. Yet I have to add my deadlines most certainly is.

I have been about 24 paintings for the new title, so it has left me a little short of time to complete new works, new wildlife paintings to offer the market. I will make up for this fact in 2015.

It follows on from my last book " Learn to paint Dogs and Puppies

OK I am showing you the Italian version that came out during 2013.

I still have so much to complete upon the new title and really hope that I get it in before the deadline. I know my wife Catherine along with other good friends are pushing me rather hard, not to mention my editor.

Sure it will all work out.

Italian Dogs and Puppies

Hi everyone, yesterday I had a small package drop onto my door mat from my publishers. Inside there were four new copies of my 2012 book , painting dogs and puppies.

Only these copies have been translated into Italian…..

What a lovely thing and although I do not speak Italian, i love to hear it, and think it is a great language.

A lovely surprise.
